The Nikon D90 is a mid level DSLR with many great features. The body is a blend of aluminum and plastic for a travel friendly light weight without sacrificing toughness. Images are captured by a 12.3 megapixel DX size self cleaning CMOS sensor. Metering is handled by an intelligent 420 pixel RGB sensor, the metering integrates lens distance data from compatible lenses and works in conjunction with the autofocus system for focus tracking. Autofocus is primarily handled by a Nikon CAM-1000 AF sensor featuring 11 focus points (1 being cross type) and contrast detection focus off the image sensor is also possible during live view. A large 3.0'', 920,000 dot screen adorns the back of the body, perfect for navigating menus and viewing recently taken pictures.
Other amenities include a 4.5 fps continuous burst rate that's great for moderate action, separate shutter speed and aperture control dials, a built-in flash, compatibility with Nikon's full featured industry leading Speedlight system, and a broad array internal settings and controls designed for photography enthusiasts. This camera is a great all - around performer, perfect for portrait, nature, action, and landscape photography.
The Nikon D90 --- First and foremost there's a new CMOS sensor, which Nikon claim produces D300 quality output at up to ISO 6400 and - one of several features to 'trickle down' from higher models - the same highly acclaimed 3.0-inch VGA screen as the D3/D300. Naturally it has Live View with contrast-detect AF and it would have been surprising had it not sported some form of dust removal system. More surprising is the inclusion of the world's first DSLR movie mode (720p HDTV quality, no less) and HDMI output, though as we'll see later it does come with some limitations. A lot of the core photographic spec is the same as or very similar to the D80, though there is a new shutter and an implementation of the 3D tracking AF seen on the D3/D300.
In a world first for D-SLRs, the D90 offers a movie function, allowing you to shoot HD720p (1,280 x 720 pixels), 640 x 424 pixels or 320 x 216 pixels movies at the professional smoothness of 24 frames per second in motion JPEG format. The D90's sensor, which is much larger than the sensor of a typical camcorder, ensures higher image quality and exceptional low-noise, high ISO sensitivity performance, even during movie shooting.
