What Is the Difference Between a Portable Strobe and a Flash?

A portable strobe, on the other hand, is a larger, more powerful light source that is often used off-camera and can be connected to the camera via a sync cord or wireless trigger.
How Do You Connect a Portable Strobe to a Camera?
